Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get students acquainted with the most frequent immunopathological diseases, their patophysiology, clinical symptoms and signs, diagnosis and treatment. The diseases caused by the deficiency of the immune system, autoimmunity, and immunological hypersensitivity are predominantly discussed. Various aspects of laboratory diagnosis of immunopathological diseases and interpretation of the laboratory tests are included in the lectures as well. The lectures broaden the knowledge obtained during the subject „ immunology“ and prepares the students for the study of specialized clinical subjects dealing with various immunopathological diseases. At the end of the course student should be able to understand and explain basic syptomatology of the most important immunopathological diseases and interpret tests used for their diagnostics.
Syllabus
  • Laboratory tests in clinical immunology, indications, limitations.
  • Primary and secondary immune deficiencies. Frequent infections in infancy and childhood. Frequent infections in adults. HIV disease.
  • Immune tolerance.Systemic autoimmune diseases.
  • Organ-specific autoimmune diseases.
  • Immunocomplex diseases. Vasculitic diseases.
  • Patophysiology of atopic diseases. Treatment of atopic diseases.
  • Allergy of the respiratory tract.Food allergy. Drug intolerance.
  • Organ transplantation.
  • Treatment of immunopathological diseases.

Teaching methods
The subject is given in a form of lectures.
Assessment methods
To get the colloquium-credit a witten test composed of 30 multiple-choice question must be passed. A correct answer to at least 25 quetions is required.
