Course objectives
The content of the course is the methodology of macroeconomic analysis, work with empirical data and their evaluation. The focus of the course is to develop basic economic concepts that are used for explaining and projection of phenomena in real economic systems.
Seminars are focused on basic techniques (filtration, correlation, regression analysis) which are used for work with empirical data (time series). The accent is on evaluation and interpretation of the results.
Students will be able to:
- make basic transformation of time series (stationarization)
- distinguish various types of shocks in economy
- examine behaviour of variables during business cycle
- routinely use tools of quantitative analysis
- interpret and evaluate results of estimation of single-equation models
- detect structural change in time series
- analyze behaviour of a small macromodel
- identify sources of economic growth
