Course objectives
Student will be able to analyze the situation in the 1990’s in the Czech Republic and apply gained knowledge in the next development of the Czech financial sector. He will be able comprehend situation in particular financial market sectors like a banking and an insurance sector or a capital market. He will be able to evaluate benefits of the transformation process in the Czech Republic and compare them with costs of the transformation. A student will be able to discuss about advantages and disadvantages of the Czech transformation with situation in other post-soviet countries during the 1990’s.

  • 1. Future Trends in Global Financial Markets

  • 2. Emerging Markets: Characteristics of emerging markets and their description;

  • 3. Czech Financial System: Types and functions of the financial system and role of financial markets in economic system;

  • 4. History development: Development of Czech banking system and voucher privatization;

  • 5. Banking System; Characteristics of Czech banking system in past years, description in tables and charts;

  • 6. Market regulation and protection (SEC): Regulation of Czech financial market, institutions of regulation and their description;

  • 7. Prague Stock Exchange: PSE profile, history, rules, trading groups and exchange indices;

  • 8. Capital Market in Czech Republic: Characteristics of Czech capital market in past years, description in tables and charts;

  • 9. Collective investment: Characteristics of collective investment sector, investment company, collective investment funds, standard and special funds;

  • 10. Financial Management in Czech firms: Principles and practice, differences between CR and EU countries / rest of world;

  • 11. Financial analysis: Method of financial statement analysis, solvency analysis and profitability analysis;

  • 12. Transformation of Czech Insurance market: Principles in insurance, history and present in figures, comparison with Europe and future outlook;

  • 13. Outline of Capital Market in Czech Republic: Structure, present state, expected development and specific aspects of Czech capital market segments;

The course is dividend in individual lectures.
Assessment methods
The course has a form of lectures. The course is completed by a written exam in the form of multiple choice. Student must submit an essay at least 500 words long.
