Course objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- define basic terms connected with BPM and BPMS;
- describe techniques for retrieving information about processes, for modeling processes and for optimizing processes;
- explain the concept of BPM (e.g. parts of the management discipline, frameworks used for implementing and managing BPM);
- understand the importance of processes and their management in the context of the whole organization management;
- orient in variety of information tools that support BPM;
- create a model and optimization of semi-complex business process.

  • 01 - Introduction to BPM – context, definitions, scope, purpose.
  • 02 - BPM frameworks and models - basic description of frameworks and models.
  • 03 - Governance of BPM versus strategy - how to manage and control BPM.
  • 04 - Cultural and people aspects of BPM - the soft side of BPM.
  • 05 - Modeling in BPM and IT support - the core part of BPM.
  • 06 - Business process - basic part of BPM.
  • 07 - Business Process Model and Notation - how to model business processes.
  • 08 - Modeling of business processes - retrieving of information and requirements.
  • 09 - Modeling of business processes - modeling in teams, brown-paper session.
  • 10 - Modeling of business processes - modeling tools and BPMS.
  • 11 - Designing of business processes - how to design a measurable business process.
  • 12 - Process optimization techniques.
  • 13 - BPM implementing and critical success factors.

Teaching methods
Lectures, class discussion, group project, reading.
Assessment methods
Mid-term test (multiple choice + open questions), active seminar participation, final group project.

Students have to reach at least 60% in mid-term test, actively participate on seminars and on discussions and defend final group project. The final assessment consists of 25% of mid-term test, 10% of seminar activity and 65% of defence of final project.

Any copying, keeping a record of tests or carrying the tests out, using forbidden aids including any communication devices or any other breach of objectivity of the exam is regarded as a failure to meet the obligations of the subject and as a serious breach of study regulations. As a consequence, the teacher grades the student with "F" and the dean is allowed to initiate a disciplinary action, which might lead to the termination of the studies.
