Prerequisites
The course has no specific prerequisites. Students must only be able to formulate the goals of their doctoral project so that they can discuss it with others enrolled. Students are supposed to gradually search for and develop empirical solution of their doctoral projects. DXH_MET1 Methodology 1 is followed by DXH_MET2 Methodology II and is an integral part of it.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to gradually build ability - To reshape the theoretical framework of the dissertation project into an realistic plan of empirical solution - In this framework, consider the advantages and disadvantages of the solution in nomotetical or ideographic paradigms - Specify the plan to obtain empirical data - Design the realistic analysis of acquired data and link it with theoretical assumptions - Constructively act as an opponent in discussion with other enrolled colleagues
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to grasp the research topic of their dissertation project in practice and to translate it into a series of very concrete steps that will ensure its realization with regard to the validity of the results. They will acquire the ability to collect data within a given paradigm, code them, prepare the analysis and link it to the former research aim. At the same time, they will be able to present these results to colleagues.
Syllabus
  • 420/5000 During the first semester of the methodology, 4 meetings will take place, focusing on: I. Formulation of the research plan II. Ensuring the reliability and validity of data generation processes (or equivalent requirements for ideographic solutions) III. Ensure an adequate transfer of empirical data into an dataset and design a realistic analysis plan IV. Obtaining feedback on the consistency of the empirical plan with the original research intent

Teaching methods
The course is designed as a block-taught with a large share of students' work on their own projects and peer feedback. Seminars will be held in six-hours blocks.
Assessment methods
After the first, second and third seminar, the students will prepare the position paper with a suggestion of the steps to accomplish the assigned tasks. They will I. Define of the objective of own research II. Propose method of data collection with argumentation regarding the research question III. Design the structure of research data for for an analysis and analysis itself At the same time, each student will study the material of the selected colleague and provide a written feedback on the realism of the proposed steps. Individual tasks are rated as fulfilled or unfulfilled. The condition of successful passing through the course is to fulfill all tasks.
