The course is intended for fourth-year students of full time studies in the Public Economics field of study.

Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to discuss and analyze topical problems of housing. Students are introduced to housing and housing policy in general. Particular attention is paid to the specifics of theoretical and practical issues of housing in their social and historical context.
At the end of this course, students:
- understand the importance of housing and its historical context
- learn the basic principles of the housing market
- get an overview of the topical development of the housing policy
- are acquainted with the specificity of various housing sectors - owner, rental, cooperative

  • 2. Property market, Housing market.
  • 3. City and country planning.
  • 4. Evaluation of the real-estates.
  • 5. Size and development of the housing stock in the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • 6. State housing policy.
  • 7. Municipality housing policy.
  • 8. Rental housing.
  • 9. Insurance policy of the flats and non-residential premises.
  • 10. Cooperative housing.
  • 11. Social housing.
  • 12. Legislation concerning housing in the Czech Republic. Supranational documents.

Assessment methods
The course takes the form of a lecture, class discussion and presentations by experts in housing.
The course is concluded with an oral exam - discussion on an essay.
Students are eligible to take the oral exam provided that they fulfill given conditions: they pass two tests (a test is regarded as successful if at least 50% of answers are correct).
Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.).
