Course objectives
Physiotherapy in the context of kinesiology is a multi-disciplinary field of study, where knowledge in nutrition can help expand the complex approach to client and therefore to increase therapist’s qualities. The aim of this course is to broaden the general knowledge of students in the field of nutrition in context of biochemistry and human physiology in order to provide better health care. Application into physical training or competition to improve and optimize regeneration and adaptation processes.
Learning outcomes
After passing the subject student will be able to:
- asses nutritional state of an individual in context of physiotherapeutic practice on basic level;
- orientate and correctly interpret basic nutritional recommendations for the general population;
- orientate and correctly interpret basic nutritional recommendations for athletes in support of regeneration, adaptation and sports performance;
- orientate on the market of foods and supplements, food labelling and correct food preparation;
- application of the knowledge on different specific groups of population (elderly, children etc.) or specific environmental conditions (cold vs hot environment etc.).

  • 01. Basic nutrition concepts.
  • 02. Anthropometrical assessment and methods of assessing the nutritional state of an individual.
  • 03. Macronutrients – carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
  • 04. Micronutrients – vitamins and minerals.
  • 05. Fluids and drinking regime.
  • 06. Rational approach to nutrition, food preparation and orientation on the food market.
  • 07. Applied sports nutrition – before, during and after physical performance.
  • 08. Applied sports nutrition – endurance vs resistance and speed physical performance.
  • 09. Supplements.
  • 10. Nutrition of specific groups of population and environment.

Teaching methods
Frontal type of teaching with open group discussion related to presented topic and practical seminars.
Assessment methods
Attendance (students are allowed to miss 2 seminars), cooperation in seminars, homework and 2 written tests (average classification 70 %). The final evaluation of the course is credit in the form of a test (70%).
