Course objectives
The course explores symbolic and economic dimensions of public communication, the interplay between economic organisation and political, social and cultural life. The course attempts to provide analyses of ways in which communicational activity is influenced by the uneven distribution of material and symbolic resources. It draws attention to how different ways of financing and organizing of cultural production influence the spectrum of discourses and public representations and access to them. The course also addresses the question of balance between free market approaches and public intervention.
