Course objectives
Main objective of the course can be summarized as follows: to learn electoral formulae to understand the theories about the dependence of the electoral and party systems
Syllabus
  • 1. History of elections 2. Classification of the electoral systems 3. Laws of Duverger and Sartori 4. Electoral systems research 5. FPTP and two-round systems 6. Other majoritarian formulae 7. Semiproportional systems 8. List proportional systems I. 9. List proportional systems II. 10. STV and MMP 11. Mixed systems 12. Seminar - which electoral system is the best? Assessment methods
Written seminar paper (maximum 10 points), active participation on the seminar (maximum 4 points), written test (maximum 20 points). It is necessary to get at least 18 points.
