Course objectives
Non Profit Sector
The goal of the course is to make students familiar with differences in operating of non-profit organizations in comparison with organizations of market sector, which work on profit-making principle. The course prefers that kind of orientation in this problem area which enables students to find out and explain relations in operating of non-profit sector. Also they should be able to evaluate the pros and the cons in realization of mission and goals of existing non-profit organization. Having passed the course students should be able to use acquired knowledge in practice in nonprofit organization in social area.
Syllabus
  • Topical plan of lectures:
  • 1.Basic information on course. Delimitation functions of non-profit sector in national economy. Different access to definition of non-profit sector.
  • 2.History of non-profit sector. NGO in economic theories.
  • 3.NGO in international comparison. Economic indicators, employment, regional pattern of non-profit sector.
  • 4.Mission, goals, functions and activities of NNO. Civic associations – legislation, economic characteristics, perspectives.
  • 5.Foundations and (endowment) funds - legislation, function in non-profit sector, economic characteristics, and perspectives.
  • 6.Public service organizations and church juridical persons (religious organizations) - legislation, function in non-profit sector, economic characteristics, and perspectives.
  • 7.Financing of non-profit organizations. State grants policy.
  • 8.Fundraising. Projects preparation.
  • 9.Financing NGO from European Union’s structural funds.
  • 10.Management, marketing, communication and PR in NNO. Strategy planning in NGO.
  • 11.Accounting, taxation, audit, calculations for NNO.
  • 12.Lecture of leading worker from chosen significant NNO.
  • 13.Economical dimension of volunteer work in non-profit sector.
