Course objectives
The course provides insight into the field of Traffic psychology and into the work of traffic psychologists. In the course the students will get acquainted with basic theories and discourses in the field and with their application in practice. The course also provides students with basic knowledge about the traffic-psychological assessment and about work with the most frequent clients of traffic psychologists.
Learning outcomes
Student will:
- know the basic attributes of psychological eligibility to drive the car;
- know the principles of work with problematic drivers;
- be able to critically evaluate traffic safety acts from the point of view of psychology.
Syllabus
  • 1. Purpose of work of traffic psychologists, theories of traffic psychology, research in traffic psychology, psychological evaluation of traffic infrastructure;
  • 2. Personnel assessment in traffic psychology, reports, psychical eligibility to drive;
  • 3. Psychological work with participants and victims of traffic accidents - first aid and work with trauma, driver psychotherapy; problematic drivers and their rectification, work with fear of driving;
  • 4. System and legislative aspects of the work of a traffic psychologist;
  • 5. Individual intership in the Center of Transport Research.

Assessment methods
Active participation at seminars: 10 + 10 points
4x written preparation to discussions: 4x4 points
Group presentation: 30 points
Individual presentation: 10 points
To complete course, students should complete 4 hours of practical training at the Traffic Education Center, have at least 75% attendance in the seminars and receive at least 55 points from the tasks and activities.
The course is finished by a written test or an essay.
