Course objectives
1. to deepen knowledge of the history of world politics from the end of the Cold War to 2014. 2. to familiarize students with the basic interpretive lines of events in the subject period. 3. to deepen students' ability to conduct an informed and fact-based debate about the subject period.
Learning outcomes

Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the subject, acquaintance with the scope of the subject, assignment of literature. Basic milestones of world politics between 1990-2014 2. The end of the Cold War and its reflection in the academic debate 3. Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Operation Desert Storm and the impact of the conflict on world politics 4. The collapse of the Soviet Union and its implications for world politics 5. The violent disintegration of Yugoslavia 6. The war on terror, international military involvement in Afghanistan and the implications for world politics 7. The US invasion of Iraq in 2003 and its consequences 8. China's rise as a great power and its post-Cold War implications for world politics 9. International politics in East and Southeast Asia since 1990 10. The evolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict after the end of the Cold War 11. The evolution of the UN and the OSCE or the loss of illusions about collective security 12. The Arab Spring and its imprint on world politics 13. Russia's hybrid war against Ukraine and its consequences
