Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce both the theoretical framework and context of sports journalism and, above all, to teach the basic procedures and methods of sports journalism and the creation of basic genres. Students will be introduced to various forms of sports journalism - television, radio and written for print and online media, with an emphasis on audiovisual production.
Students will write, shoot and edit sports reports and conduct an authentic interview with a sports personality. They will get a behind-the-scenes look at sports from a other perspective and visit a live sports broadcast. They will try practical tasks in class. The course will be a preparation for independent practice/work in a sports newsroom.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- perceive and critically evaluate the relationship between sport, society and media;
- orientate themselves in the basic trends in the development of sport (professionalisation, commercialisation, etc.);
- master the basic routines of the daily work of a sports journalist;
- create basic genres of sports journalism (reportage, interview) for different media types;
- build a basic scenario of a live broadcast;
- communicate with representatives of sports institutions and work with PR outputs.
