Course objectives
The subject of the course is civilian and military crisis management (CM) of the European Union (EU). The course offers theoretical as well as practical insight into the issue of EU CM operations. At the end of the course students should be able to better understand the meaning of EU CM and the role of EU CM operations, to have an overview about completed as well as ongoing operations, to describe the development of EU CM capacities, to clarify the institutional structure and decision-making mechanisms of the EU CM, to explain ways of Czech participation in EU CM and to analyze EU CM operations in particular geographical regions. Last but not least, students get the opportunity to confront the knowledge they get in the course with experience of an expert.

Teaching methods
The first part of the course is composed of lectures, the other part of the course consists mainly of seminars. Lectures offer basic information, students are supposed to extend them through required and recommened readings. The elaboration of case studies improves heuristic and analytical skills of students, as well as their team work. Oral presentations of the case studies serve to improve students´ presentation skills and their abilities to emphasize important information and omit the less significant in a given time limit.
Assessment methods
mid-term and final test, elaboration of a case study and its presentation, team work, participation in class discussions based on the reading
