Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand global and regional environmental problems to learn the regulatory techniques and instruments to cope with environmental problems in the international and Czech legal systems
Syllabus
  • 1. International environmental law - global environmental problems, sources of the international environmental law, environmental treaties and their characteristics 2. International treaties in the field of air protection, inland water protection, 3. International treaties in the field of the cultural heritage of mankind, nature protection, 4. International treaties in the field of hazardous activities, environmental impact assessment and Aarhus Convention 5. Czech environmental law - regulatory structure, sources of the law, environmental decision-making 6. Air protection, ozone layer protection, global climate change 7. Protection of inland waters 8. Nature protection 9. Legal regime of waste disposal and legal control of toxic substances and other chemicals 10. Agricultural land and forest management and protection 11. The right to the information on the environment and participation of the public in the environmental protection 12. Environmental impact assessment, integrated prevention and pollution control,Land use planning and environmental protection, Environment and the Czech Constitution.

Teaching methods
Lectures with discussion. Lectures are held for a minimum of 5 students. With smaller number of students attending the course, lectures are replaced with tutorials.Reading assignments will be given by the course co-ordinator during the course.
Assessment methods
The examination in the form of a written test and one semestral paper/ppt.presentation. Examination - credit requirements: 1. Semester paper/ppt. presentation 2. Written test 3. Participation in lessons
