Prerequisites

The students are expected to reach at least an intermediate level of English. This course is linked to the work done in the first term.

Course objectives
After completing the seminar, students will be able to explain differences between Continental and Common law in the following branches of law - criminal law, property, intellectual property and trusts. They will be able to name and clarify different stages in criminal procedure, and explain the differences between different types of crimes (e.g. murder and manslaughter; robbery, burglary, theft). The newly acquired input in the area of property law will be actively used while solving case studies. All four language skills (writing, reading, speaking and listening - B2 level) will all be practiced in the specialist legal areas.

  • Trusts, diferent types, people involved in trusts, laws of succession
  • Intellectual property, patents and copyright, trademarks

Teaching methods
interactive language seminar
Assessment methods
The work done in seminars is based on interactive teaching. The credit test checks the acquisition of terminology, understanding the content of texts and language skills closely related to legal English - defining. Requirements: Active participation in class discussion, final written credit test (a translation, definitions and a short written text), students need to score at least 70% out of 59 points.
