Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to study and analyse the doctrines of private international law. The course examines the historical development of approaches to private international law from the glossators (postglossators) in the 13th century to the "great" 19th century period and von Savigny's PIL.
Learning outcomes
The basic requirement for the output of this course is an oral discussion of the problem. At the same time, the student is expected to write an article or conference paper on a topic covered in this course and assigned at the beginning of the semester by the instructor.

  • Basic overview of the topics discussed: - Historical development - ius gentium, Greece, Egypt - glossators - postglossators, statutory theory - French jurists of the 16th and 18th centuries - Dutch school - Story - von Savigny
