Course objectives
Main objective of the course is to bring experience with solving practical problems in laboratory of biochemistry, to acquire practical laboratory skills and to learn students to derive conclusions from laboratory experiments.In the course are also demonstrated methods of clinical biochemistry and their significance for diagnostics of diseases.
Syllabus
  • Neutralization titrations. Determination of titration acidity of milk and titration alkality of water. Spectrophotometry, absoption curve, calibration curve, determination of salicylate concentration. Handling biological material. Blood collection and processing. Anticoagulants, plasma, serum, deproteination. Automatic biochemical analyzers, evaluation of laboratory examinations. Enzymatic determination of glucose in blood and urine. Evaluation of oral glucose tolerance test. Determination of glucose in urine. Determination of total cholesterol in blood serum. Determination of HDL-cholesterol and calculation of LDL-cholesterol. Determination of urea in blood serum and urine. Orientational evaluation of nitrogen balance. Basic urinanalysis, detection of abnormal components. Urinanalysis by multipurpose diagnostic strips. Orientational chemical analysis of renal calculi. Practice the urinanalysis.

Teaching methods
Practicals in biochemistry lab.
Assessment methods
The course is completed by course-unit credit. Full attendance in all lessons (making up all missing and justified lessons), completion of all lab reports and handing them to the teacher till the given data.
