Course objectives
The goal is improving the communicative competence of students. The fundamental textbook is a French method Le Nouveau sans frontieres 4, which is complemented by further materials mentioned below.

  • Selected texts from the textbook for analysis and discussion: 1. La société spectacle : Le triomphe de l'apparence (Le Nouvel Obeservateur). La mise en cause des images (Le Point). Histoire des rapports entre l'homme et l'image (Le Nouvel Obeservateur). La mise en scene romantique. F.-R. de Chateaubriand. Mémoires d'outre-tombe. La mise en scene des objets : Nouveau réalisme. Hyperréalisme. Surréalisme. 2. L'emprise des signes : Signes des temps : Tags (Madame Figaro). Dessins préhistoriques (Langage des signes). Le sens des gestes quotidiens. Opinion de taggers. L'évocation des choses. M. Proust, Du coté de chez Swann.
