Course objectives
The subject provides some additional information on linguistics, linguistic subjects and linguistic bohemistics. It provides to the students knowledge of the fundamental linguistics subjects and the terminology (phonetics and orthography, morphology, syntax, lexicology and word-formation and word-building) and pieces of knowledge on special fields (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics) and on the linguistic and language handbooks and journals, too.
It is pressupossed that student is able after ending the course:
- To distinguish and describe the linguistic handbook and to use them;
- To distinguish linguistic disciplines and to explain relationships among them;
- To explain the grammar cathegories and other linguistic terms (phone, phonem, word, word cathegories, sentence, compound and combined sentence...).
Syllabus
  • 1. Language and linguistics.
  • 2. The structure of the language. Language levels and language elements (phoneme, morpheme,lexical units, sentence, clause). Grammatical categories. Grammatical concepts.
  • 3. Phonetics and Phonology. Phone and phonem, graphem. Orthography, types of orthography, orthographical norms.
  • 4. Morphology. Grammatical cathegories of verbs and nouns. Word cathegories and their meaning.
  • 5. Syntax. Sentence, compound and combined sentence. Elements of sentence. Function of sentences in the communication.
  • 6. Lexicology. Vocabulary. Words, multiverbal units, phrases.
  • 7. Word-forming. Structure of the word. Types of word-forming.
  • 8. Stylistics. Functional styles and stylish procedures of text-forming.
  • 9. Linguistics journal. Linguistic handbooks (dictionaries, grammars).

Assessment methods

Ending: Credit
Credit requirements: The student shall make out knowledge of the themen of the lecture: he/she shall write a short composition (minimum: 2 pages A4) = reflexion of some thema of the lecture and than a short-time discussion shall follow.
The written works have to be handed in two weeks till the end of the semester, the discussion shall be hold in the last lesson.
