Course objectives
Subject "Unsustainable development of mankind 1" aims to familiarize students with the concept of sustainable development and its alternatives in the context of environmental, energetic, economical and ethical implications.
Syllabus
  • 1. Man and the Environment, the creation and direction of the environmental movement, 2. Concept of SD and international negotiations (the Club of Rome report, The Brundtland Report, Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, Agenda 21, the Millennium Development Goals ...) 3. Meadows concept ǒf SD, Lovelocks concept of "sustainable retreat", sustainable living, 3. planetary boundary and global environmental risks, Anthropocene, geoengineering, 5. Globalization, international trade, responsibility of companies for environmental hazards (eg. industrial accident in Bhopal 1984) 6. Tragedy of the Commons, 7. Indicators of human environmental impact, ecological footprint, 8. Resilience (definition, mechanisms, resilience vs. efficiency, resilience of cities) 9. Transition Towns Movement (permaculture, community projects, food, energy, and financially resilient communities) 10. Education Activity The Pyramid of Sustainability.
