Course objectives
After completing this course the students will be able to interpret differences in pronunciation between German and Czech vowels and diphthongs and characterize typical mistakes in pronunciation made by Czech native speakers.
Syllabus
  • 1. Practice of pronunciation of German vowels and diphthongs with emphasis on phonemes missing in Czech. 2. German stress. 3. Reduction in German pronunciation. 4. Work on vocabulary and grammar in the textbook "Německy s úsměvem nově" from the phonetic point of view (Lesson 1-4). 5. Leading and complementing of a phonetic lexicon.

Teaching methods
Seminar; practice of pronunciation of German vowels and diphthongs, active participation in class along with consistent home practice. Specific part of this education is creating of an own phonetic vocabulary.
Assessment methods
Fulfilling requirements; the students are supposed to read a short German text with emphasis on correct German pronunciation.
