Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to introduce students to the problematic nature of the literary science. It is presumed that students will have mastered the essentials of the literary studies, forms of citing and bibliographical references and terminology of the literary science.
Syllabus
  • 1. The basic concepts and bibliography concerning the subject. 2. Prosodic systems in czech literature. 3. Introduction to the theory of verse. 4. Analyses of poetic texts. 5. Free verse: analyses. 6. Language means of the literary text. 7. Thematic analyses. The structure of the literary work. 8. Literary categories, kinds and genres. 9. Final test.

Teaching methods
Form of course: seminar. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: students hand in a written assignment and pass the final test which contains questions related to the topics listed in the syllabus.
