Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the basic features of Russian childrens literature; to learn the relations of Russian folklore and childrens literature; to learn the history of Russian childrens literature to understand the relations between childrens literature, art and music and to read the main representatives of Russian childrens literature.
Syllabus
  • The syllabus of the childrens literature
  • 1. The periodization of Russian childrens literature. Definition and functions. Intentional literature. The importance and function of folklore in childrens literature.
  • 2. The evolution of Russian childrens literature in the first half of the 19th century (A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, V. Odoevsky, P. Ershov, V. Gogol)
  • 3. Fairy Tale. Evolution, genre. Author´s Fairy Tale vs. folk.
  • 4. The evolution of Russian childrens literature in the latter half of the 19th century (I. Turgenev, N. Nekrasov, F. Dostoevsky, N. Leskov, V. Garshin, V. Korolenko). The evolution of theory and criticism in the childern literature. L. N. Tolstoi.
  • 5. Russian childrens literature at the beginníng of the 20th century. The year 1917. Discussions about russian childerns literature. M. Gorky.
  • 6. Russian childrens poetry in the first half of the 20th century. (poet K. Chukovsky, Marshak, Majakovski, OBERIU, Kharms)
  • 7. Russian childrens literature in 20-30 of the 20-th century. In the USSR and abroad. A Gaidar.

Written test in Russian, its obligatory part is reading (compulsory and recomended literatury) - see topics in study materials in IS and writing a handout. Written test in Russian, which evaluates language content and correctness of responses.
