Course objectives
In order to be enrolled for this course, the student’s language competence must correspond with level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This course prepares students to be able to use German scholarly texts in their studies as well as future professional life; it also develops their communication abilities in both spheres mentioned. Students work with written and recorded texts on B2 level with respect to specific features of the scholarly language in terms of lexical and stylistic devices as well as grammar. The course also involves giving presentations and writing abstracts, comments, essays and formal letters.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student will be able to: - understand spoken LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; - understand written LSP texts at B2 level of the CEFR; - give a presentation; - produce a formal email; - show a good command of selected grammar structures at B2 level of the CEFR.

seminars practical lessons: communication activities, language exercises, writing tasks, presentation, feedback
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: 1) Active participation in the consultations (1 absence is admitted), 2) Careful preparation for each consultation (preparing tasks in Home-preparation Section of each handout for the particular consultation), 3) oral presentation, 4) Final Exam – written + oral part. It is necessary to pass each part of the final exam for at least 65%(written part – 49 out of 75 points, oral part – 16 out of 25 points). The student who has not completed all requirements during the semester cannot take the final exam.
