Course objectives
Practical introduction to phonetic system of Russian language. Practice of Russian accent. Types and places of accent, reduction and its basic positions, formation of syllables, voice system, melody (Czech/Russian differences), sounds, consonants and vowels, vowels’ classification. The emphasis is on the correct Russian pronunciation and intonation correct sentences.

  • 1. Intonation, intonation structures of the Russian language, stressed word and phrasal accent.
  • 2. Intonation structure 1. Declarative sentence.
  • 3. Intonation structure 2. Interrogative sentence with a interrogative word. Addressing, greeting, imperative mood.
  • 4. Intonation structure 3. Interrogative sentence without a interrogative word, repeated questions.
  • 5. Intonation structure 4. Incomplete interrogative sentence with a Russian conjunction a. Sentences with an enumeration.
  • 6. Intonation structure 5. Emotive sentences. Sentences with a positive and negative evaluations, two intonation centers.
  • 7. Intonation structure 6. Emotive sentences. Sentences with a positive evaluation.
  • 8. Intonation structure 7. Emotive sentences. Sentences with a negative evaluation.
  • 9. Intonation Czech and Russian in comparative aspect: the sentence declarative, interrogative, imperative.
  • 10. Reading dialogues.
  • 11. Listening to recordings and analysis (using intonation structures, relevance of intonation structures).
  • 12. Revision: reading and analysis of the dialogues.

Teaching methods
Student must actively participate in the class, prepare regulary home assignments. Reading and listening russian texts.
Assessment methods
Attendance 80% (two absences allowed). The course finishes with a credit, which consists of both oral and written part. The written part – transcription, intonation structures. The oral part – short texts reading. The correct pronunciation and intonation is evaluated.
