Course objectives
The objective of this subject is intensification knowledge of the Russian culture. The acquirement of the relation between the study of the language and realities and the national connotation of the word is important. The emphasis is placed on the reading and listening of the authentic texts trom Russian periodicals and art literature.
Syllabus
  • 1. Geography of Russia. Climatic and environmental conditions, terrain and waters. 2. The political system of the Russian Federation, the state system. 3. Russian state symbols: a coat of arms, flag, anthem. 4. Russian architecture. Foreign influences and originality. 5. Moscow-capital of the RF.Sights. 6. Petersburg. Window to Europe. Sights. 7. Tourist attractions and architectural monuments of RF. Golden Circle. 8. Orthodoxy and Catholicism as the main directions of Christianity. 9. Orthodox traditions, holidays. 10. Russian state holidays, family traditions and customs. 11. Russian cuisine (borsch, ear, science, pelmeni, šašlyk, leaven). 12. Russian folk crafts: wood and ceramic toy, Khokhloma, Gžel, Palech etc.

Teaching methods
Seminary, discussion, presentation in Russian.
Assessment methods
Seminar: Attendance 80% (two absences allowed). Attendance is required also for these students who have the subject registered as repeated. Project – every student must hand in a project (in Russian) during his study. The topic can be chosen by the student according to his interests, but must be consulted beforehand.
