Course objectives
At the end of this course the student will acquir the good knowledge about the history of ancient Rome. He will be able to evaluate the changes in the period between Antiquity and Middle Ages and the importance of Roman heritage for the early Medieval and contemporary Europe. He will become familiar with the mothodology of ancient historical research, too and to analyse some ancient written sources right.
Learning outcomes
Students will acquire knowledge of historical processes, facts and phenomena. They will master the basic terminology of the field and will be able to characterize the key features of historical development. They will be orientated in historical literature.

  • 1. The beginnings of Rome -- the legends and the modern science 2. Archaic period of Roman history 3) The institutions of Roman republic 4. The wars, provinces and slaves in the epoch of republic 5) The crisis of republic 6) The beginnings of so called pricipate 7) The Romans and our territory 8) The top of so called principate 9) Roman culture and the provinces at the top of principate 1O) The Roman state and the Christianity 11) The crisis of Roman Empire in the 3rd Century A.C. 12) Roman absolutism and some elements of feudalism within the Roman society 13) The Romans and Barbarians in the age of the great migration of peoples
