Course objectives
After completing the course the student is able to understand and apply in practice the basic elements of the technique and methodology of swimming training. He/she can provide assistance to a tired swimmer and master the technique of rescuing a drowning child. The graduate of the optional skating course will become familiar with the methodology of basic skating training.
Learning outcomes
The student understands, explains and applies in practice the knowledge of physical education in the field of swimming and optionally also skating. The student can use the acquired knowledge and skills in the development of physical abilities and skills of children of younger school age. He/she masters the technique of helping a tired swimmer and rescuing a drowning child.
Syllabus
  • Swimming: basic swimming concepts, principles of hygiene and safety during swimming, preparatory exercises on dry land. Preliminary exercises and games to introduce the water and orientation in the water, swimming and breathing into the water. Falls and jumps into the water. Elementary swimming of the kraul style, swimming interplay of this style with breathing. Elemental swimming of the character style, swimming interplay of this style with breathing. Elemental breaststroke style swimming, swimming interplay of this style with breathing. Helping a tired swimmer, rescuing a drowning swimmer.
  • Optional skating: safety and organization of basic skating for children. Methodology of training basic skating of children, injury barrier. Basic practical training focusing on forward and backward skating, turns and stopping. Games on ice.

Students who choose to take the optional ice skating course concurrently enrol in the elective course ITVZB Fundamentals of Ice Skating.

Course requirements for students on mobility abroad: the swimming course must be taken either by substitution in the following semester in the swimming course in the Kindergarten Teacher Education programme or by enrolling in the course in the following year. The method of individual completion of the course must be agreed in advance with the teachers.
