Course objectives
The contemporary written childrens literature. Genres of the childrens literature. 21. century in the childrens and juvenile literature. So called Problem books and the topics of this genre. Historical topics in the realistic juvenile literature.
Syllabus
  • The genre realistic and phantastic story in the 20. century. Picture book a comics - contemporary tendencies. Representatives of the german and austrian childrens and juvenile literature in the second half of the 20. century. The 2. world war and other historical topics in the juvenile literature. Family, peer-group, sex, violence in the contemporary juvenile literature. Tendencies from the world literature.

Assessment methods
The course focuses mainly on the knowledge of the German juvenile literature. Attendance is obligatory. Regular homework. An oral presentation of one read juvenile book and a written review of one book. Oral exam. History, genres and the theory of the juvenile literature. List of the obligatory lecture. The juvenile literature as a science with a special terminology.
