Course objectives

Basic sectoral discipline of geography, which provides an overview of the basic knowledge of geography of industry and agriculture.

Syllabus

1. Genesis and roots of social and economic geography, its position in the system of science, relation with other disciplines. Introduction to geography of agriculture.
2. Localisation factors of agriculture.
3. Agriculture in the world.
4. Common Agricultural Policy of the EU.
5. Impact of agriculture on environment. Other production branches (fishery and forestry). Hunger in the world.
6. Introduction into geography of industry. Classification of industry. Evaluation of industry.
7. Localisation factors of industry – genesis, development and present importance.
8. Characteristics of industrial branches - extraction of raw materials, iron and steel industry, energetic.
9. Characteristics of industrial branches - engineering, chemical, textile, food and wood industry.
10. Other industrila branches.
11. History of „modern“ industry – high tech.
