Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
(1) proffesional work in the field,explore several habitats, describe their biological components;
(2) interpret the results ascertained by means of combination of all used methods on all studied habitats;
(3) submit all ascertained data well documented in their individual final reports;
(4) identify all selected (by tutors) important representatives of vascular plants and invertebrate animals;
(5) integrate theoretical knowledge from different branches of biology subjects already passed (esp. botany and zoology) with obsevations in the field.
The main objective of the course are the following: making students to integrate theoretical knowledge from different branches of natural history subjects already passed with obsevations in the field.
Syllabus
  • Field practises are carried out as team work of students in 4 (3-5) groups under professional supervision of all seminar tutors - each group is concentrated on one selected habitat (wood, meadow, field, fishpond, stream, etc.); interpretations of results ascertained by means of combination of all used methods on all studied habitats will be documented in individual final reports.
  • 1st day: opening of field practises, accomodation, organizational meeting; begining of work in particular habitats (placing of traps etc.), excursion onto surroundings with demonstation of important vegetation units; identification and preparation of collected material.
  • 2nd day: group work on particular habitats (rotation of groups); identification and preparation of collected material.
  • 3rd day: group work on particular habitats (rotation of groups); excursion into close nature reserves; identification and preparation of collected material, work on final reports.
  • 4th day: finalization of field works (replacing of traps etc.); completing of final reports; defence of final reports, practical examination – botany, zoology; closing of field practises, cleaning up, packing, loading of material and departure.
