Course objectives
The aim of the course English for Special Educators is to develop and consolidate students' language skills and help them to achieve B1 level in all language skills(listening, reading, speaking, writing). This course is focused mainly on developing specialist vocabulary connected to the field of study, i.e. Special Needs Education. Students will also revise grammar on B1 level. Furthermore, students will develop some academic skills in English (specialist oral presentation, giving and supporting arguments, discussion, etc).
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to: understand spoken as well as written LSP language at B1 level of the CEFR; successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant LSP issues; show a good command of selected grammar structures and specialist vocabulary at B1 level of the CEFR; introduce themselves/their field of study/professional goals

Teaching methods
There are four class sessions during the semester for which students are expected to prepare for beforehand by reading, writing and research activities, as well as grammar exercises at B1 level.

4-5 class session during the semester, activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, mind mapping, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments, etc.
Assessment methods
Course completion requirements:
1) Attendance and active participation in the consultations (only 1 absence permitted), all coursework must be completed including any catch-up work for a missed class.
2) Submitting assignments in due time (specified by course instructor)
3) Oral presentation (possibly submitted in a video).

NOTE: Only students who have completed the above tasks and satisfied the above requirements may sit the final exam.

4) FINAL EXAM: Written part: Test (reading, writing, listening, grammar and vocabulary), pass mark 65%.
5) Spoken exam: follows after the successful completion (above 65%) of the written exam consisting of two parts:
- Introduction of yourself and your (future) social work, about 1 minute;
- Student discussion on special education topics (5-6 min. long).

General note: Zápis vyžaduje úspěšné absolvování vstupního testu JVk001 (obvykle v lednu). Výuka probíhá v angličtině. Kurz je ukončen písemnou a ústní zkouškou na úrovni B1.
