Course objectives
The purpose of the course is to develop all four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing. The initial level of the course is upper-intermediate (CEFR B2-C1); the aim of the course is extension of accuracy, fluency and the register in use of the English language. Through the analysis of the language for teaching purposes, the students will shift their roles - from being the users of the language towards the language facilitators. At the end of the course, after 3 semesters of the Practical Language course, the students are expected to achieve advanced level (CEFR C1).
Syllabus
  • The core resource of the course is the textbook New English File Upper-intermediate, units 5, 6, 7. The student's book will partially be covered in class; the rest will be assigned as self study; additional materials will be available in the online mood-link course support; students are expected to do all exercises assigned by the teacher. Assessment methods
In order to qualify to sit for the final credit test at the end of the semester, students will have to have the 70% of the continuous assessment of the semester course work (unit tests, one progress test, forum discussion participation, one writing assignment handed in). The final test will consist of reading, writing, listening, and speaking test. Students will need to pass 70% in both, the written part and the speaking test respectively. The final test will consist of evaluation of the students accuracy and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading,listening and writing at the FCE, B2-C1 level of accuracy.
