Prerequisites
GIS – Geographic Information Systems. The course is for the students studying Wider Teacher Training in Geography. The course focuses in on preparation of the basis for the final thesis and active didactic use of geoinformatics at primary and secondary schools.

Course objectives
Students are able to work with the GIS; use GIS knowledge and GIS applications; interpret and discover the space and air images, use space images as a didaktic material, create animation from the space images; classify the changes of the landscape according to the time resolution of the air images; work with interactive maps published on the web sites
Syllabus
  • Introduction to Geoinformatics – theory of GIS, RS, GPS ArcExplorer – free downable application for primary and secondary schools, topographic map of the home town and its neighbourhood Remote sensing – space images, didactic transformation of the images from the satellite LANDSAT Space images – observing up-to-date images from the satellites MATEOSAT and NOAA; to create the animation on the basis of satellite images to classify the cloudiness in Europe. Virtual walk on the Earth – the work with Google Earth Interactive maps published on the web sites The maps of Czech Republic, thematic maps (geology, Nature Protection, NATURA, air pollution etc.), other useful web sites, their didactic use Historical and up-to-date air images – classify the changes of the landscape The work with the Global Positioning System

Tutorial. Thematic work. The course is completed by the credit. To complete this course successfully, it is necessary to elaborate and submit the summary work in time (credit week); Each student is also supposed to work in the GIS Laboratory independently.
