Course objectives
The main objectives of the course is to assume the basic information about people with physical disabilities and chronical illnesses, the possibilitis of their education, their support and stimulation.
Learning outcomes
Orientation in the area of the theoretical backgound of the field. Orientation in the area of support of pupils with physical disability. Orientation in the field of the teaching pupils with physical disability.
Syllabus
  • 1. Classification of physical disabilities
  • 2. Central palsy (after injury of brain, injury of spinal cord, degenerative diseases of brain and spinal cord)
  • 3. Cerebral palsy, ethiology, forms, therapy
  • 4. Cerebral palsy as a profound disability and other disabilities
  • 5. Symptomatic speach disorders of children with cerebral palsy
  • 6. Deformation and malformation, classification, charakteristics
  • 7. Progressiv muscular dystrophy, Spinal Muscular atrophy - SMA
  • 8. Characteristic and support provided for chronically ill pupils
  • 9. Characteristic and support provided for seriously and chronically ill pupils
  • 10. Epilepsy, influence of education
  • 11. Educational system provided for pupils with physical disabilities
  • 12. Inclusion of pupils with physical disabilities and chronical illnesses to the mainstream schools (legislation, conditions)
  • 13. Possibilities of support in the Czech Republic
  • 14. Early intervention of children with development disorders
  • 15. Care and support in the pre-school period, assessment of the school maturity of chidlren with physical disability
  • 16. Education of pupils with physical disacilities in the primary school
  • 17. Organisation and the meaning of schools at hospitals and medical institutions
  • 18. Career counseling, transfer to secondary school
  • 19. The meaning of work and employment of people with physical disability.
  • 20. Physical, psychical and social aspects of physical disability
  • 21. Assessment of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, grapho-motor skills, intervention
  • 22. Speech and communication, alternative communication for people with physical disabilities, using of computers
  • 23. Therapy in a special education care (art-, music-, occupational, animal therapy)
  • 24. Comprehensive rehabilitation
  • 25. Curative rehabilitation (physiotherapy) for people with physical disabilities
Teaching methods
Lecture, work with papers and video, discussion, field trips.
Assessment methods
Attendance: 75%. Participation on lectures, semester work incl. tasks for selfstudy, oral exam
