Course objectives
Lectures focus on translation theory, specifically on translation from French into Czech and vice versa. Basic translation processes will be introduced, pointing to the fact that there is indeed more to translation than transposing characters of one language into another, but that translation is instead a shift from one system of thought to another. An introduction to working with a range of dictionaries forms an important part of the seminar. The lectures are followed by Translation seminar I in the spring semester.
