Course objectives
The aim of the course text and translation of art is the application of fundamental knowledge translation processes in the translation of a particular artistic text. The seminar will be devoted to practical art of prose translation of texts from French to Czech. Attention will be given particular argot, using elements of spoken language, expressive, and slang expressions nespisovným in French prose and possibilities of their translation into Czech. Students will be able to define the main principles and techniques of translation, the basic stages of the translation process and apply it to an artistic translation of text (prose). At the end of the course students will be able to analyze the style of the original plane, to detect translation difficult places in the text art and recognize the appropriateness of the chosen means of expression.

  • 1st bibliography on the theory of evolution and the Czech art of translation from the French and the art of prose translation 2nd familiarization with the most common translation techniques in artistic prose translation of the text, defining the problem areas - the translation of the name of art, place names, proper names of literary characters, a translation of realia in the art of text 3rd translations of specific texts, a joint analysis of translation

Teaching methods
Joint analysis of specific texts translated, defining translation processes. Application of acquired knowledge on authentic texts.
Assessment methods
Final written exam - language text of the thematic focus. Condition for admission to the examination is active participation in seminars (80%) and continuous production of the specified translation.
