Prerequisites
In order to be admitted to the B. A. exam (the comprehensive exam in Latin language and literature), a student must obtain the prescribed number of credits in his subject, must successfully complete the courses compulsory for all students of the Faculty of Arts and must complete the prescribed readings. He must also submit the B.A. Diploma Thesis or submit the B.A. Final Thesis.

Upon completion of this course, students have demonstrated their the knowledge and skills of the students acquired during the Bachelor's studies (see course syllabus).
Syllabus
  • The B.A. State Final Exam comprises of:
  • Detailed knowledge of Latin normative grammar: vol. I and II of F. Novotný's: Základní latinská mluvnice, Praha 1957 (and later editions); the script by A. Bartoněk, J. Janda, E. Kamínková, B. Mouchová, E. Kuťáková: Latinská syntaktická cvičení, Praha 1993 (and later editions); detailed knowledge of Latin stylistics: § 960-1038 (theory of style) of vol. II of Historická mluvnice latinského jazyka by F. Novotný, Praha 1955.
  • Knowledge of the linguistic terminology, general knowledge of the languages of the ancient Mediterranean.
  • Detailed knowledge of the development of Roman literature and the awareness of its connections with the development of the Greek literature: Dějiny řecké literatury by L. Canfora and Dějiny římské literatury by G. B. Conte.
  • General knowledge of the sciences dealing with the Antiquity, their place in the compendium of the social sciences, their disciplines and scientific methodology.
  • The examination from the Introduction into Latin Studies is a part of the exam as well.
  • Thorough knowledge of the prescribed readings.
