Course objectives
This course is an introduction to the study of language and communication. It covers basic information about history of linguistics, main, linguistic theories, methods, disciplines, linguistic terminology and the features of Indo-European and Slavonic languages. At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain basic notions and theories from the branch of general linguistics and use basic linguistic terminology.

Lectures (practically exemplified theoretical information), class discusion, reading of recommended literature.
Assessment methods
During semester: active participation (max. 4 absences), class discussion
Completion: final written test (ca 38 questions, max. 50 points, min. 30 points - the students will be become acquainted with the structure of the text at the end of semester)
