Course objectives
The seminar further develops and deepens knowledge and skills gained in courses Překladový seminář I, II (publicistický překlad) with focus on double-sided translation of easier and more difficult publicistic texts from Russian into Czech and vice versa. During the broad work with current texts from various thematic fields students train the professional approach to work of translation and they develop their translator achievements.
Syllabus
  • week 1-2: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from thematic field of Politics, Economics and International Relations
  • week 3-4: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from thematic field of Science and Technology
  • week 5-6: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from thematic field of Culture and Arts
  • week 7-8: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from thematic field of Global Problems of the Contemporary World
  • week 9-10: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from up-to-date thematic fields
  • week 11-12: double-sided translation and translation analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts from thematic field of student’s own choice

Comparative group translation analysis of students’ translations.
Assessment methods
Credits will be granted upon active participation in seminars and elaboration of 10 translations from Russian into Czech (1 page A4).
