Course objectives (in Czech)
The course is intended to provide a background survey of developments in linguistics and their relation to developments in practical language teaching. We will move from a general consideration of historical developments in modern linguistics to a more focused consideration of specific areas including phonetics and phonology, grammar and syntax, semantics, pragmatics and discourse analysis, socilolinguistics,register and stylistics, psycholinguistics, child language learning and language acquistition theory.The course will also a more immediately practical element, focusing on aspects of analysis of the English language with direct application to the English language teaching classroom.
