Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students into the issue of mass media and theory of media education, as well as an implementation of these findings to practice through media education lessons preparation. Work at an elementary school is a part of the course. At the end of the course, students are capable of designing and realizing a lesson in media education.

  • 1. Basic terms. Mass communication as a process. 2. Media literacy and media education. 3. Source of mass communication – the media industry. 4. Media product and its contents. 5. Media product and its meaning. 6. Audience. 7. Effects of mass communication. 8. Media education in Czech school practice. 9. Didactics of media education. 10. Practical realization of media education lessons at primary schools.

Assessment methods
Course type: The course is organized as seminars. Students submit assignments during the semester. In the last part of the course, students prepare a media education lesson plan proposal in groups and subsequently realize it at an elementary school in a real class. Course evaluation: Timely submission of assignments and a lesson at an elementary school are required.
