Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: define basic terms from the fields of music folkloristics, ethnoorganology, publishing activities; name, identify, and categorize individual popular instruments according to the classification of ethnoorganology, identify the researched phenomenon in a given ethnographic region on the basis of an audio recording. The students should also be able to create a commentary on the song used in editions of song material, i.e. the student will be able to describe the version of the song, place it into the typology, interpret the text and compare it with its versions in available song collections, give reasons for the occurrence of rhythmic, melodic and textual specific features; formulate the commentary in a brief and organized way, summing up all the discovered data.
Syllabus
  • Folk organology (basic theory, practical exhibits). Origins of musicians and dacers from folk groups, „New folk songs“(exhibits of text of theese songs, singers and authors of new folk songs, video exhibits of contenpory production).
  • Practical exmples from music edition (origin and preparing, comparation).Work with collection of folk songs (cover section, comparation of texts, inspiration etc.).
