- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
identify the main types of opera libretto;
recognize the basic procedures used to transform the text of a play into an opera libretto;
locate particular works in the context of the historical development of the opera in the 20th century;
interpret the relations between the opera dramaturgy and the developments of modern drama;
characterise the opera poetics of leading composers;
apply the theoretical instruments received in the previous study (music theory, music history)to the analysis of dramaturgy in particular pieces;
re-construct the historical connections between the development of the musical language of the 20th century and other branches of art;
judge the relations between the dramaturgy of an opera and the performance practice. - Syllabus
