Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students wil be able to describe the reasons for the collapse of the sovereign state of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1938-1939 and the fight for its re-establishment during the Second World War. External and internal factors in the struggle for political power in postwar Czechoslovakia, the results of the February events for Czechoslovakia’s international standing.
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the most significant events in the development of Czech statehood in the period between Munich 1938 and February 1948, to show the consequences of the divided spheres of influence between the victorious powers on the development of political power in Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1948. To contribute to the development of students’ ability to independently analyse documents and literature from various sources and to use them when researching specific questions concerning the period 1938-1948.
