Course objectives
Lecture and seminar cycle should offer to the students the basic overwiew about the development of the Latin script at the period of the Middle Ages, it means since the IX. Century AD to the XII. Century AD. Students shoudl be able to distinguish the typ of the script and its dating as well as paleographic characteristic of the script, they shlould to make a paleographical analysis and comparison and transcription of medieval latin, german and czech texts. Very important is knowledge of the basic literature to the medieval Latin script including main editions/book series. At the end of the programme the student should be able to:
- use the knowledges from the development od the latin script from the IX.th to the XII.th Cent. on the historical sources, especially by the datation of the undated texts
- transcribe selected original Latin texts from 800-1200
- analyse and read original Latin texts from 800-1200
