Course objectives
The aim of the course is acquaintance the students with baroque day-to-day life and material culture in the Czech Lands. At the end of the course students will be able to describe basic tendencies in development of the society in historical Czech Lands in the 17th and 18th century. They will manage to characterize significant elements of contemporary civilisation and specific forms of everyday life within particular components of society (monarchs, nobility, citizens etc.)
Syllabus
  • Everyday life in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia 2. half of 17. century, consequencecs of thirty years war.
  • Structure of society, handicrafts and manufactory.
  • Sustenance, costume, furniture, banquets, music, medicine and hygiene, etc.
  • Warfare - development of tactik, arms and armories.
  • Science, religion, recatholisation.
  • Games and entertainment.
