Course objectives
During the seminar students will practise: - lexical and stylistic exercises (synonyms, homonyms, opposities) - acticive use of lexic of tought conversational topics - intepretation of text (listened to and written) - essays on given topics.
Syllabus
  • The main attention is paid to improvement and enrichment of students’ vocabulary obtained in CJQ004. Exercises are aimed to practice synonymy, antonym and homonymy. a/ synonyms – words that have similar meaning, intensity, superior concepts, differences in meaning and style, foreign words b/ antonyms – antonyms in words, sentences, differences in meaning c/ homonyms Other subjects will be for example: replacement of one-word constructions by more-words constructions and vice versa, verbs of motion, verbs that express sounds; foreign geographical names and expressions that reflect quantity.

Teaching methods
Theoretical explanations during the course will be supplemented by practical exercises. Students will work with a text and write essays on given topics.
Assessment methods
Final written test. Besides the test, the following rules must be observed: 1/ In order to successfully finish the course, student's participation in the course must be at least 75 %. If student's participation drops below 75 %, he will not be allowed to write the final test. 2/ The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence. 3/ Students must not switch study groups, unless the Head of Department of Czech for Foreigners explicitly approved it.
