Course objectives
This course is intended for Bachelor students of the second year. Topics and grammar dealt with in the obligatory course Language acquisition II/2 are practised by means of prosody, pronunciation, drill, speaking and conversation exercises. Goal is to reach level B1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Syllabus
  • Each class revolves around one or more speech acts:
  • (1) Talking about oneself and somebody else + giving advice
  • (2) Making appointments and calling
  • (3) Describing people and things and expressing emotions
  • (4) Talking about rumours, gossips and facts
  • (5) Asking (again) + influencing conversations
  • (6) Asking about what happened + describing statistical figures
  • (7) Expressing (un)certainty
  • (8) Asking/informing about health/pain
  • (9) Giving a preference and talking about characteristics
  • (10) Expressing a negative attitude towards somebody + talking about stereotypes
  • (11) Negotiating about costs and services
  • (12) Formulating one's opinion
